Fashion Shoot on Malibu’s Beach

See An Inspiring BTS Fashion Shoot on Malibu’s Beach

For this BTS Fashion Shoot video, L.A. based fashion photographer Mark Singerman wanted to shoot around the idea of an angel having a dark side. And he chose Malibu as his backdrop for this shoot. If you were an angel with a dark side, would you hide in Malibu? Thinking about it for a bit, I realized it would be a great place to set up base. You could conquer the world from there with a great smile, good luck, and old money.  I guess Singerman is onto something with this shoot.

But what is an angel with a dark side exactly? These things come to mind:  in reverse, it could be sort of like a neighborhood tough whose secretly a foodie, or a drunk with a responsible side, or even a romantic with a business-savvy thirst for more and more money, more and more cars, more and more artificial friends, more and more of influence. Influence now that is an angel with a dark side.

This a pretty cool Behind-the-Scenes video by the way — trust me! There’s nothing better than learning from others.

    • Mark, I’m a photog out in Nashville I’ll be out there shooting next month having a crazy time trying to get a permit for Point Dume beach. I was told you need a permit from Malibu and one from Filmla is that true??

      • Hey, Victor! I believe permits are needed but I didn’t use any for this shoot. Depending on how big your crew is, you can probably shoot without any problems. But I have been asked to leave several beaches over the years. Be smart about it. Keep s low profile and shoot in s remote part of the beach if you can’t get permits. It’s silly to me that we need permits for really small crews. FilmLA permits are meant for hige hollywood productions which shut down entire streets etc. if you need that permit, I’d be surprised and annoyed but call the city and ask! I hope this helps!

        • Dude thanks man! Appreciate the response, that shoot you did was awesome! I called today for Point Dume I was told The FilmLA permit was $160 and the Malibu one will be atleast $125 and both agencies must approve the shoot and both agencies have to issue a permit for that beach. Mind you it’s just me an assistant 1 light and a model. Smh haha. Thanks again man!

          • Sure, no problem! And thanks very much! I have some more bts vids coming this summer.

That’s ridiculous if ou ask me. I can’t justify spending that much money on such a small shoot personally. Just make sure if you decide not to get the permits and you risk it, to pick a remote part of the beach along with a really early or really late shoot when few people are there, and be ready to have a backup location nearby you can relocate to if you’re asked to leave. And always always ALWAYS say that the shoot is NOT for business but rather for fun and education because you’re a photography student or something. Having an old school ID helps for that alibi.

Take care! Shoot me an email if you have any more questions. My info is on my website.
